What is a casing?

A casing is a tire that came in for retread or repair and has not been through the final inspection station or marked as an NRT.


What is a Repair Only ?

A Repair Only is a tire that was repaired (not retreaded) and has been completed through the shop and is ready for delivery.


What is an NRT ?

An NRT is a tire that was not able to be repaired or retreaded. It may be designated for scrap or returned to the fleet for disposal. Once a tire is marked as an NRT, it leaves the casing status.


What is an inactive location ?

This is a fleet location that has since been closed, this data will drop off as the tires get delivered back to the fleet.


What is an unassigned location ?

The tire was entered into BASys manufacturing without a valid fleet location, this data can be corrected at the dealer location and the web site be updated.


What is a misassigned location ?

The tire was entered into BASys manufacturing with a location for a fleet that is different from the fleet indicated on the work order. This can also be corrected at the dealer.


What is a retread?

A retread is a tire that was retreaded and has been completed through the shop and is ready for delivery.


How are the grades determined ?

General Grading Rules*
The “A” grade consists of virgin casings that are either Goodyear, Michelin or Bridgestone.
The “B” grade consists of Goodyear, Michelin and Bridgestone casings that have been retreaded once and all other brands that are virgin casings.
The “C” grade consists of all other casings.
A grade of “?” indicates that the number of times a casing has been retreaded is unknown.

*If the National Account Fleet grading is turned on in BASys Manufacturing, BFI will use it when entered at pre-inspection or inspection.

Penske Grading*
The “A” grade category consists of casings that have been retreaded zero times.
The “B” grade category consists of casings that have been retreaded one or more times AND are less than 6 years old.
The “C” grade category consists of casings that have been retreaded one or more times AND are greater than 6 years old.

Ryder Grading**
The “A” grade category consists of casings that have been retreaded zero times.
The “B” grade category consists of casings that have been retreaded one time.
The “C” grade category consists of casings that have been retreaded two or more times.

**National Account Grading has no effect.
